Some of the best are:

  • Catch a show at the historic Continental Club
  • Attend South Austin Summer Fest
  • Dance the night away at Rain on 4th, a well-known LGBTQ+ nightclub in Austin, featuring themed nights and drag shows
  • Celebrate LGBTQ+ culture at the annual Austin International Drag Festival and Queerbomb event

Our Favorite Spot in South Congress

We’re huge fans of the restaurant Ovenbird in SoCo.

It’s artsy but also has a vibrant nightlife. East Austin also prides itself on queer-owned culinary gems like Jacoby's and Grizzelda's, offering elevated Southern and Mexican cuisine, respectively. The iconic Scoot Inn, with its storied history and eclectic performances, is a must-visit venue where the soul of Austin's music culture thrives.

Through them, you can get an e-SIM that has coverage for the entire United States for much cheaper than roaming. You can also apply online to see exactly how much you can afford!

Austin’s Most LGBTQ+-Friendly Neighborhoods

Austin — known for its eclectic culture and vibrant music scene — is also a welcoming oasis, boasting a variety of gay-friendly neighborhoods and LGBTQ+-owned businesses.

💁‍♀️ Forget the basic bar scene, here's where the real magic happens:

  1. Sports leagues: Get your sweat on with Volleyball Austin or join the gay football league.

We love the friendly and exciting atmosphere, karaoke nights, and happy hour specials.

    Moving to Downtown Austin

Many gay men call this area of Austin home, but living Downtown comes with a price. You can shop for everything you need for Pride and buy LGBTQ+-written books and apparel. Credit to Austin Atherton @haus_of_muses.

    Warehouse District/Fourth Street

In the heart of downtown, the Warehouse District blends historic charm with a modern night out.

It’s common to see a down payment option of 3% or 5%. It is also close to all the gay action, as it is the gay area of Austin.

If you are looking to stay in East Austin, we recommend scoping out some places on Airbnb. We use Airalo religiously. 🏳️‍🌈🧗‍♂️ Okay, maybe not literally, but the Austin Bouldering Project has been jokingly dubbed a potential gay hangout.

Whether you are cleaning for a big move or just need regular cleaning, Sparkly Maid Austin makes sure that one and all feel welcome and valued.

    LGBTQ+ Representation in Local Government

Austin's city government is very progressive in terms of LGBTQ+ issues. You're not in Kansas anymore.

    Gay Accommodations in Austin

Alright, so you need somewhere to stay in Austin.

We set up shop for some time in East Austin (which is considered to be the gay district of Austin).

You can avoid massive service charges by sitting in a different section where you order off of a QR code menu.

  2. Let's Get Cultural: Cultural and Historical Sites and Tours of Austin

Hopefully you have some energy in you to see what makes Austin so fabulous. Then werk, activist!

  3. Summermoon & Unbarlievable: Ethical no-go zones.

It is located on the main gay strip in East Austin.

  4. Outer Heaven Disco Club - Located right next to Full Circle Bar in East Austin, you can transition from playing games to dancing or singing karaoke in less than 30 seconds. It’s close enough to Downtown nightlife without being constantly immersed in the scene. You’ll also find important gay activist centers, such as Atticus Circle and Equality Texas, nearby to serve as a reminder of how important LGBTQ life is in Austin.

The main attraction of this neighborhood is the nightlife and restaurant scene.

    Red River Cultural District

Known for its talent-driven nightlife, the Red River Cultural District is a must-visit hub with cocktail bars and live music. Cheer Up Charlies offers a quirky and lively setting for community gatherings.
