This time, though, Lady Tilley Arnold (Hannah New) is a widow, and described by Deadline as a ”living life on her own terms with financial independence and sexual freedom.” In the first half of season 3, we certainly see her hold her own with the men of the Ton — but could that sexual freedom mean opening Benedict’s mind beyond heterosexuality? The show has also changed the order of the books so Francesca, Hyacinth and even Gregory all could theoretically get their seasons before Eloise.

With that in mind, there's still time for Eloise to have a queer love story even if she ends up with Phillip.

The Netflix series has changed several aspects of the series, but the Bridgerton siblings have ended up with the same people they do in the books. note: Below are spoilers for who’s having a queer awakening in Bridgerton season 3B. For now, at least.

What this means for his own love story as told in the books is a big question mark.

In the books, Eloise is written as straight but showrunner Jess Brownell has now teased that the show will feature queer love stories going forward.

Adding to the speculation, Claudia Jessie has now said that there's "definitely room" for Eloise to have a queer love story.

Is Eloise gay in Bridgerton?

Speaking to Business Insider about Eloise's sexuality and the fan theories, Claudia said: "I've always loved that there's this coding that people have with Eloise.

“So it only feels right to show all the ways in which people love, including queer love. For years fans have shipped her with her BFF Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and after seeing part one of season three, many of us shipped Eloise with Cressida Cowper (Jessica Madsen). If women can’t even inherit property without a man or an heir, they definitely can’t kiss other women (and same goes for dudes).

Now there is an existing fully-fleshed out and beautifully poignant queer love story in the Bridgerton universe — but you’d have to watch the Queen Charlotte miniseries to experience it. But the show has been playing fast and loose with the way things go in the books, so we’ll see what this means for Benedict and his newfound bisexuality.

DIVA magazine celebrates 30 years in print in 2024. This reveal showed that Benedict was not the only queer Bridgerton sibling and that something sapphic is coming for Francesca Bridgerton (Hannah Dodd) in future seasons. Eloise is yet to have a same-sex romance in the show but many queer fans have identified with Eloise's story.

Of course, that got a wrench thrown into it, but Eloise constantly seeks female friendship in a way that we don’t really see with the other female characters her age, who are more preoccupied with finding a proper suitor.
