The children in the ink, paint, and collage digital spreads show a variety of emotions, but most are happy to be at school, and the surroundings will be familiar to those who have made an orientation visit to their own schools.

While this is a fairly bland treatment compared to Deborah Lee Rose and Carey Armstrong-Ellis’ The Twelve Days of Kindergarten (2003), it basically gets the job done.

Let the children play and yes, encourage kindness.

If you're trying to be inclusive, you be inclusive. Don't drag your kids into your political agendas and confuse the heck out of them or put confusing ideas in their head.

This guide has simple and clever ideas for talking about the words and concepts explored in The GayBCs in order to deepen the contextual understanding with your kids.

I guess you the buyer be the judge.

I played with the boys and the girls. Does the world really need an ABC explainer on various alternative lifestyles for toddlers and little kids? I read it. The topic will likely come up in discussion at some point later on when they're older, unless they've already been exposed to unsavoury and inappropriate behaviours, or, alternatively, they have gay parents (which may require some explanation and it's simple - sometimes people like people that have the same body parts).

I saw this in Barnes and Noble while looking for something completely different, which I never found.

A glossary in the back offers opportunity for further discussion of terms and identities. I'm just waiting for the book titled, "How to cut off your own "Pe..." (I'll let you finish off the potential title - and if you think I'm being ludicrous, check out the movie "Idiocracy" - it's terribly painful to watch, but you'll find some valid reference points).

THE GAYBCS

Rabe follows a young girl through her first 12 days of kindergarten in this book based on the familiar Christmas carol.

The typical firsts of school are here: riding the bus, making friends, sliding on the playground slide, counting, sorting shapes, laughing at lunch, painting, singing, reading, running, jumping rope, and going on a field trip.

If you’re a kid, you can do these activities on your own with a bit of support from a grown-up!

The GayBCs

A joyful celebration of LGBTQ+ vocabulary for kids of all ages!

Nobody told me I couldn't play with trucks and had to play with dolls and we raised our child to enjoy what she enjoyed without turning it into a gender identity experience. (Picture book. I was mortified. I know that  talking about  gender, sexuality,  and  LGBTQIA+  (lesbian,  gay, bisexual, transgender,  queer, intersex, asexual, and more!) issues with kids can be challenging, so I hope reading The GayBCs with your small human(s) makes it easier and more fun!

While the days are given ordinal numbers, the song skips the cardinal numbers in the verses, and the rhythm is sometimes off: “On the second day of kindergarten / I thought it was so cool / making lots of friends / and riding the bus to my school!” The narrator is a white brunette who wears either a tunic or a dress each day, making her pretty easy to differentiate from her classmates, a nice mix in terms of race; two students even sport glasses.

I'm all for inclusion, but these topics for little kids are just more noise, which parents then have to explain. He is represented by Elana Roth Parker.

I was a bit stunned to be honest. I didn't wind up confused.
