Rennie’s daughter, Heather, will have a big role in the new business, too, helping wherever she’s needed.
The Deli plans to offer full breakfasts, including omelets, French toast, eggs, breakfast burritos, ham, bacon, sausage and Eastern Shore scrapple, and more.

Taken out of context, some of my recent phone conversations might sound a bit strange.
“What’s your price today for a dozen large males?”
“Do you sell females, too?”
I was asking, of course, about crabs — possibly the only animal that requires you to specify a gender while ordering.
In Shanghai, the best soup dumplings are the ones with pork and crab meat inside, garnished with a dollop of crab roe on top (and, if you’re lucky, inside some of the “soup” as well). Next time she can mention that the local crab shack has now evolved to be Gay’s Seafood & Deli on North Washington Street in Easton.
Rennie is planning to be open daily with the Deli side opening at 6 a.m.
I called around Saturday, the day before Father's day, looking for Crabs and everyone else was either out, didn't get the in, or only had crabs that were really expensive.. Price is generally competitive for the area. Thank you guys at Gay's, I will see you in the next 2-3 weeks!
MANY MANY THANKS FROM PA SURGICAL PATIENT. In Hong Kong, crab congee, a savory rice porridge cooked with a tablespoon or two of roe, is never the cheapest item on the menu, and often one of the most expensive.
Growing up, I almost exclusively ate female crabs. Gay's is my new go-to Crab place.. Rennie took over the seafood business from his grandfather many years ago.
Of course, the new Gay’s location will continue to offer steamed crabs, soft crabs, shrimp, crab cakes, “Fried Fish Friday,” and other seafood delicacies using all new updated equipment for carry-out or dine-in.
Get ready for the grand opening, which is scheduled to be on April Fools’ Day, April 1. But what about supply?
All other things equal, females are generally in shorter supply for crabhouses than males, since mature female crabs are subject to catch restrictions during the peak season (there is also minimum size limit, but that applies to all crabs).
“From a conservation point of view, there should be a premium price on mature female crabs,” said Tom Miller, director of the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science’s Chesapeake Biological Laboratory.
Another place was nicer, but they also didn’t carry females for sale.
“We just like the males better,” they told me. After rough year an horrible surgery the only thing I wanted was crabs. You will probably have Leroy Jackson, a 15-year dedicated employee, taking your seafood order.
The new Deli side of the business will be managed by Suzanne Gay, Rennie’s sister-in-law, who has had many years of experience in the food industry.
Cooler than Ol' Bay. Absolutely fun find. One said they only had females that day (and, in general, rarely carry males); the other said they sold both, but at the same price.
In this case, it seems that the difference between the dollar value of females and males really comes down to a question of culture.

Tuesday, April 1 is expected to be an exciting day for Talbot County native Rennie Gay and his family.
For one, size matters. Lunch offerings will include hot and cold sandwiches, salads, homemade soups and assorted platters with fish, shrimp and crab cakes. She knew about my wish and stopped at many places n the only place with good reviews is Gays. You know it’s greasy off the boat, cleaned and frozen for freshness.
Rennie grew up on the water and in the fields hunting, and he continues operating Tidewater Guide Service, which he says is very busy during the hunting season, especially with deer hunting. I called Gay's Seafood, and although they didn't have Female Crabs (which are my favorite) they had #2 males for $30/ half bushel cheaper than anyone else.
