Confidential’s founder, Robert Harrison, was a native New Yorker who cut his teeth as a reporter for the city’s tabloid newspapers, before launching a girlie magazine empire during the 1940s.

In the September 1955 issue of Confidential, the big scoop was ‘The Real Reason Behind Marilyn Monroe’s Divorce!’ Two years later, the fiasco would resurface to the detriment of everyone involved – and Confidential most of all.  Asquith had a complex personality, living as a repressed gay man, and using alcohol as a form of escape.

Although American-born,George Cukorwas nevertheless a maverick in Hollywood circles.
